My name is Sharon, I have been a Volunteer with Homestart since 2009/10. My involvement started in 2003 not long after I had my twin boys (now 16) , plus an older boy (4.6 years, now 20), it was my Health Visitor who introduced me to Homestart as I was finding it difficult to get out and about. When the boys went to school I decided it was my time to meet people and what better way than to become a Home-Start Volunteer! Application Form sent in, Training Programme, Assessment with one of HS Managers and Board Person (short interview asking me questions in situations which may arise) then the1st Family Meeting, I can’t remember who was more nervous me or the family. Through time I’ve had few families but it’s always sad when it ends as you get attached to each and everyone. As well as Family Visits I was involved in the Family Groups when they 1st started up but gave them up when my dad was in hospital. Today, my involvement within Home-Start West Lothian is volunteering at the Shop once a week and Family Visits. The Shop is in Whitburn and there’s always the regulars we have come in for a chat. When am not doing my volunteering I spend time with my own Family and Cat (Poppy), Meet up with Friends, Shopping in Asda and take the boys to Archery (I don’t do, just watch) and their groups they go too. Hope you all enjoy reading my blog.
