How’s Home School for you?
We are all home schooling again but how is it really going for us?
In this Blog, our Group Worker Steph shares her experiences and has a few helpful hints too.
Here we find ourselves in another round of home schooling… with any luck for the last time! Like the majority, I have found this round of home schooling stressful, despite my daughter believing the opposite. The first week went great… because there was an IT error and no timetable had been uploaded. The second week.. Reality struck… working, keeping on top of a house and teaching a full timetable, without a teacher qualification, hit me hard. It was stressful! When speaking with other parents it seems we are all finding it stressful, whether that is because of trying to juggle homeschooling around other commitments or simply because we need to google the answers to P4 maths.
At the end of last week I knew something had to change, I needed it to be less stressful. I decided the way forward was to down tools! I decided what matters right now is getting through each day one day at a time. So.. my carpets haven’t seen my hoover in nearly a week and my mop hasnt seen water BUT i am up to date on homeschooling ( if i can include a couple of things sneakily handed in not done) and i am up to date on Coronation Street…. and I am less stressed! Right now, all that matters is doing what you need to do to get through each day.
So if you are finding it stressful right now, only concentrate on what matters. If you don’t get through that full timetable, that is OK because you’re not a teacher and you have tried your best. If your housework is not done because you would rather have time to yourself, that’s also ok because your happiness and stress levels matter more than your housework right now. If your children would rather play than be taught, that’s also ok because children learn through play and more importantly, they are spending time having fun. Prioritise the important and forget the rest! Let’s not be too hard on ourselves! One day at a time and we will get there!
