Developing your skills with Home-Start!
Volunteering With Home-Start West Lothian
Complete our online Volunteer Interest Form to register your interest and find out more.
We offer all our volunteers an initial training and assessment course which consists of online E-learning modules you can complete in your own time before the face to face sessions of which there are 4, (2.5 hours per week).
The face to face sessions are held at our Home-Start office and fully compliment the E-learning modules, offering discussion on each topic with fellow volunteers.
The course covers subjects such as
- Listening skills
- Values and attributes
- Confidentiality
- Domestic Abuse
- Child protection
An accreditation through West Lothian college can be gained and gives 5 credits at SCQF Level 5, however, this is optional.
All volunteers join the PVG scheme through volunteer Scotland; this is mandatory.
Training and assessment opportunities are offered to all volunteers on a regular basis and full support is provided by coordinators throughout the volunteer journey.
Join us as a Trustee to help shape the future of our work with families
Our Trustees provide essential leadership, guidance and governance from their own professional or lived experiences. They also play an important role as ambassadors for our work and can offer particular skills to the organisation. We welcome interest from those who can be passionate about our work with parents, children, families and the community.
The minimum commitment as a Trustee is for 8-10 hours each month, to attend meetings or to engage in board discussions. Further opportunities to get involved are possible too, so we can be flexible to suit individual motivations to volunteer.
