Meet the Team – Pamela
Involvement: I have been a volunteer with HSWL since completing my Preparation Course early in 2017. I have been matched with 2 families since completing the course and on both occasions I have mostly provided practical assistance and have helped with the likes of housework and tidying. However, I quickly found that although the practical side of things is helpful, a lot of the time just sitting with a cuppa and have a good chat about life and issues in general was equally as helpful to them. Sometimes, its that listening ear that can mean a whole lot more. I was with my first lovely family for about 15 months and have been with my new happy little bunch of munchkins for just a few months. When not volunteering, I work part time with Alzheimer Scotland as a Community Outreach Worker, working with people with dementia. My hobbies are walking our lovely dopey black Labrador called Roxy, crafting and spending as much time as possible with my teenage daughter. What I enjoy most is the sense that I’ve been able to help a family in some small way – perhaps made their lives that little bit easier for a few hours in a week. Also, chatting and knowing that they’ve felt better just discussing things or getting stuff off their chest.
