Helping Families – A Case Study
Everybody needs help from time to time. That’s why we are here, to be that listening ear or support during a crisis. One of the mums we supported has shared her story about her journey though lockdown with Home-Starts help.
Before I was referred to Home-Start West Lothian life was chaotic. I felt stressed a lot of the time and was really struggling with my anxiety. I went along to the groups, we met in the community centre for a while before covid and then when lockdown happened everything was moved online. We had groups every week and I had a weekly support call from my coordinator if I needed it.
I’d say the biggest difference from then to now is that I’ve gained more confidence as a mother. I know that I’m not alone in the things I’m dealing with. I’ve finally had the confidence to end my abusive relationship. My physical health, my mental state and the kids have all come on in leaps and bounds since I put an end to the manipulation and verbal abuse we received daily. Without Home- Start I know I wouldn’t have done this, they’ve helped me to realise I’m more than just a housewife.
If I could say one thing to someone who’s thinking about being referred; go for it, you’ve got nothing to lose but a lot to gain!
If you or someone you know would benefit from our support please get in touch admin@homestartwl.org.uk and one of our wonderful Family Support Coordinators will get in touch for a chat how we can help.
